Experience God's Grace...In the Midst of SufferingWhy Study First Peter?

The best individual to answer this question is the Apostle Peter himself. In a blunt, unmistakable clarity Peter gives his readers the singular purpose for the writing of this first epistle: "I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherin ye stand." (1 Peter 5:12b)

What is Peter saying? "Hey, Christian. This is what the true grace of God looks like. Stand firm in it." Since Christians are called sojourners, strangers, pilgrims, aliens in a world hostile toward Christ then 1 Peter becomes a sort of "Travelers' Guide for Christian Pilgrims." Peter is showing the motivation and pattern of lifestyle of a new pilgrim people.
